If you follow these simple steps on How to Set Up a WordPress Blog, your new website can be up and running in less than an hour.
Many entrepreneurs, and those in Network Marketing find this component of getting massive results in their business overwhelming, intimidating, or wonder why it’s really necessary. But if you want to create leverage with your time, and attract qualified prospects who are ready to take action, I really feel you must have a website and blog on WordPress.
There a millions of business owners just like you, who are making money while they sleep. None of them were born with the knowledge of how to build a business online. If they can do it, know that you have everything you need within you to do it successfully too.
So let’s get started right now!
Set Up Your Domain and Hosting
You need to things, to purchase your website domain name, and your hosting account. These are two different things. The domain of your website is your real estate online, your hosting is like the road that provides people access to your real estate and where your content is stored.
You can either purchase each one from two separate companies, or you can purchase them both from the same one. For simplicity and to get you up and running quickly, without a lot of extra steps, I’m going to show you how to do both on the same account.
The company I have used for many years to host all of my websites is HostGator. They have a great reputation, are reliable, and you can accomplish everything you need to get started right away.
Step One: Go to HostGator and click on Web Hosting. You’ll see three basic plans. I recommend the medium sized plan, called the “Baby Plan“ because for less than $2 a month difference between the small and medium plan you can have unlimited websites, or domains in the same account, instead of just one. This is important because you should eventually have two websites.
In this example I will walk you through purchasing your domain at the same time through HostGator. You will also see a tab for those of you who already own a domain. That will require a different tutorial if you do. If you already have a website name for your business, let’s purchase your own name right now (example: StephanieSterling.com) and you can add your business domain later.
Type a domain name you would like to own into the search box and on your right click on the drop-down arrow and select the blue .com button to see if your name is available. In my example I had to make up something because I already own StephanieSterling.com so it’s no longer available. If it shows up in red as unavailable, and already taken, use a variation like YourNameOnline.com.
Only purchase a .com extension and avoid a .net, .biz, .org, or .info. This is because of a few reasons; people will type in .com by habit when searching for you and you don’t want to send them to somebody else’s website. The other is that a .biz or .info will likely end up blocked or in a spam folder when you send your website link in an email.
You’ll see it added to your account when it’s available.
Scroll Down and choose the billing cycle for your hosting plan. You will choose to pay yearly, or monthly recurring, etc. Choose a username, and a security PIN, and then complete your billing information.
Choose any other services you might want to add on. I have circled two that you might want to consider. If they’re not within your budget (if checked you can view the order total below) or if you don’t want them right now, you can always add them at a later date if you want. If you don’t want them, uncheck the two boxes, and enter and validate any coupon codes you may have.
Review Your Order and Checkout.
HostGator has just sent you an email with your account information, and password. You need this to confirm, and to login to your C-Panel. Save this email forever. Do not delete this email, you will refer to it often in the future.
You’re ready to install WordPress on your website Domain.
